Understanding Your LESCO Bill

There are some deductions in the bill that many people cannot manage to understand.

Here we discuss some of these

CR : This means you don't need to pay the bill as it has a credit amount. Sometimes the Government announced any type of subsidy to poor people on the electricity bills on the defined slab of units. For example, normally government announces a subsidy on up to 300 units.

Deferred Bill/Bill with instalments:

That means either bill is divided into instalments or its date is extended for a few days and the consumer is not required to pay a surcharge while paying the bill.

Bills with Relief from the government:

Natural disaster-hit areas are provided with relief from the government along with a special package. For example, a couple of months ago flood affected areas were given relief and the electricity bills of all affected areas were forgiven. Also, during the pandemic, traders having commercial connections were provided with a relief package.

Taxes & different charges in Lesco bill:

FC Surcharge:

Financing Cost Surcharges (FC-SUR) were introduced in 2015. In order to ensure the collection of debt servicing on behalf of Power Holding Private Limited, this surcharge is applied to consumed units. Costs for FC surcharges are calculated at 0.43 per kilowatt hour.

NJ Surcharge:

Neelam Jehlum surcharge was imposed a few years back. The primary purpose of this surcharge is to collect money from consumers to fund Neelum Jehlum Dam. It is calculated at @0.10/kWh.

It is pertinent to note that both the FC surcharge and NJ Surcharge are applicable to all consumer categories except Lifeline users.

TV Licence Fee:

This is a fixed fee charged on every domestic bill. It is charged at Rs.35 per month

What is FPA in Electricity Bill?
